Blaufränkisch (blau-FRONK-ish) wines have aromas of dark ripe cherries and dark berries, are spicy, have medium tannin levels with good acidity.
Now available by the glass at the Confectionery, Red Tail Ridge’s 2010 Blaufränkisch is a wonderful offering from this rare varietal.
Red Tail Ridge is a family-owned winery in the Northwest Seneca Lake area of the Finger Lakes. They are the first winery in New York State to receive LEED gold certification for their efforts in sustainable farming.
While the bulk of Red Tail Ridge’s production is Riesling, the winemakers have had success in experimenting with small plots of Blaufränkisch.

Red Hook Winery has been producing handmade wine in Red Hook, Brooklyn for seven years.
The winery operates in a warehouse along the waterfront with dramatic views of the Statue of Liberty, Verrazano Bridge, and New York City.
Except for Governors Island, nothing is closer to the Statue of Liberty than the winery.
The “urban winemakers” at Red Hook take pride in doing things by hand.
We have returned from California Wine Country with tremendous enthusiasm for our project in Troy.
We traveled through some amazing scenery in Sonoma and Napa with our friends from Wine Country Vespa.
If you are considering visiting this area, the Vespa makes for an incredible mode of transportation through the wineries.
The senses are completely enhanced when zooming through these spectacular country roads on 2 wheels.
